The Akatsuki (暁, lit. Daybreak) Mass Production Model is the Black Knights' standard Knightmare Frame model in the second season following their exile from Japan. They are given to the Black Knights as a show of support from India, where they are manufactured. It is superior to the Gekka, though its frame is visually similar; its primary distinguishing features, are the altered head and shoulder armor. It is silver with a green tinge, and can be fitted with an Air Glide Wing System, consequentially receiving the denomination of Type-05/F2D Akatsuki Mass-Production Flight-Enabled Version.
The Akatsuki is in many ways an evolution of the Gekka rather than a completely new design. It has a single Slash Harken on the left side of its chest, and it carries a modified version of the Katen Yaibatou that is shaped more like a baton with a blade extending from the top. For ranged combat, it possess two chest-inbuilt machine cannons. Optionally, it can also equip a 2-barrel version of the Gekka's Custom Hand Gun, a bazooka or (in more rare instances) the same Radiation Wave missiles seen on the Command Model. The Air Glide Wing unit also comes with inbuilt missile launchers.

The squadron leaders in the Black Knights pilot an Akatsuki variant called Akatsuki Command Model Jikisanshiyō (暁 直参仕様), which bears a much closer resemblance to the Gekka than the standard Akatsuki. While Chiba Nagisa, Shōgo Asahina, and other standard squardron leaders pilot dark blue versions, C.C. pilots a custom-painted pink model.
It is equipped with similar weaponry than the standard Akatsuki, but carries the full-sized Katen Yaibatou instead of the scaled-down baton version. It also uses the Radiation Wave technology on a shield unit mounted in the head antennas. Among its optional weapons, the 2-barrel Hand Gun and the Radiation Wave missiles are the most common sight. They may also make use an optional Air Glide Wing unit, consequentially changing the machine designation for Type-05S/F2F Akatsuki Command Model Jikisanshiyō Flight-Enabled Version.
